I am utterly exhausted. My feet hurt, my legs hurt, my eyes wont stay open, and my shoulders feel like their going to fall off. But that was one of the best trips ive been on yet. Rome, Rome is awesome. In fact, I prefer it to Florence by far. Its an actual city. It has a subway system, big open sidewalks, more then 5 places you can go to, actual night life, and NICE italians. Yes. They were nice. One italian lady even told us that we have Italian Faces, and she was positive that we were italian when we walked into the store, which is why she spoke italian to us and looked so surprised when Alex looked confused and said No copisco. People smiled, spoke to us...the only time we felt ignored was when we tried to go out to dinner and the waiters basically just kept running past us and never came over to ask us how many we were. I just really, really liked Rome...and kinda wish I had studied there instead of Florence.
So I guess I'll go through stuff.
We got here, and were both VERY happy that we chose to stay where we did. It was clean, and safe, and served a great free breakfast (that you could update to an even better eggs, potatoes and toast one for one euro!) and nice staff. We spent friday wandering around. We walked down towards the historic part with all the ruins. Saw the Trevi Fountain, the "Wedding Cake", the Colosseum! 3 brides and their photographers (Idk why anyone would want their wedding pictures in front of ruins..so many prettier things to take pictures in front of) tons and tons of nuns of all sects (Alex and I want to write a guide book...kinda like the ones they have for Birds...) more ruins, the Roman Forum where we found Jason the tour guide with great hair who was giving a free tour, and then eventually realized we were exhausted from walking all day and went back to the room where we passed out for awhile. We then wandered around looking for a place to eat, when we found this little Spaghettiria This was our first experience with the waiters not noticing you until you like knocked them over, but eventually we made it inside and i had the most amazing pasta with this creamy sauce with LOBSTER. So good. We also ordered a litro dell Vino, which was alot for two, but we did it. It was fun. We then wandered around to the Trevi again to see it at night (bellisimo!) and back to the hotel.
Saturday. Saturday, Alex and I literally did not sit down from 8:30-6:30. We WALKED to Vatican City. Which is the exact opposite end of Rome than we were, and Rome is not tiny. Along the way we saw the Spanish Steps with the flowers all in bloom lining everything. Wandered. Took pictures. Eventually made it to the Vatican, where I can officially say I left Italy and went to another country. I didnt know Vatican City was the smallest country in the world, but it is. We waited around till 1:30 when Jason the Tour Guide came and toured us around in a group. The tour was supposed to last 2 hours....it actually took 4. But he was very interesting and told us tons and tons of stuff about the city and why things were the way they were, and about the Sistine Chapel and all that jazz...id go into more detail, but my brains is mush. Overall, it was pretty amazing. By the time it was over though Alex and I both were convinced we were going to die, so we took the metro back to the hotel and passed out again until we went out to dinner. That dinner was a bit of a expensive fail, but va bene.
Today we went into the Jewish ghetto, and i guess we both discovered that we're either allergic to Ancient, or Jews..or Ancient Jews, cause my eyes were BURNING the whole time we were there, and alex felt the same. We stopped to eat at this adorable little restaurant, where apparently we were sitting pretty much at the same table as two famous italian women. People kept coming up to them asking for their autograph, and the waiter who sat one lady who came later then the orginal woman and her man told us that we should get a picture with them. So, Alex and I rubbed elbows, literally, with some famous peeps. and didnt even know it. We ate traditional Jewish/Italian food and it was grand.
Now we're on the long ass train ride home, exhausted and waiting to pass out in bed.
But damn, that was a good weekend.
